Taking a look back to reflect on the past year, what stands out most for us is, Ms. Janelle Lau, Owner of Moana Engineering, and its Principal Engineer, recognition by others in 2017.
Publicly, for her commitment to the homeowners, and properties along the beaches and highways of the Pacific Ocean, and surrounding areas of Malibu, while attending City of Malibu council meetings, addressing changes in how FEMA Flood maps will be redrawn, and expressing the impact that, that will have on us all, late into the evening hours, and past our bedtimes. In addition, to Ms. Lau's other work, in the area of academia, Ms. Lau, was honored to receive the 2017 Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Award for Service as a distinguished Alma Mater, from the University of Southern California, where she received her BS in Civil Engineering.
As stated, on the University Department's website, "Based on her contributions and presence in the community, Janelle Lau was selected as this years’ Service Award winner. While studying at USC, Lau was a member of the Structural Engineering Association of Southern California and the national engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi. Upon graduation, she began working at David C. Weiss, SE & Associates, where she continues to serve as project manager and coastal engineer. Recently, she opened her own coastal and residential engineering company, Moana Engineering. In addition, for the past 10 years, Lau has served as president of the alumni group, David M.
